Rowland has performed at such venues as the Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre, North Sea Jazz Festival, Royal Albert Hall, Chatelet Les Halles and Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall

In Jazz
He has played with such renowned artists as Frank Wess, David Murray, Ali Ryerson, Flora Purim, Manu Dibango, Orphy Robinson, Courtney Pine and Jean Toussaint

In Classical
Rowland performs in various chamber groups and adventurous ensembles including Icebreaker, Uroboros, New Music Players, Ixion, Lontano and London Musici

He has played with such orchestras as Philharmonia, Bournemouth Symphony, London Philharmonic, European Community Chamber and Royal Ballet Sinfonia

In Non-Western music
He has enjoyed playing with numerous stars including Olodum, Joyce, Airto, Gnawa Musicians of Morocco, Nana Vasconcelos and Gaspar Lawal

In Pop
Rowland has added his sound to numerous celebrated artists and bands recordings such as Incognito, George Benson, Joss Stone, Us3, Roland Gift, Marc Almond and MC Solaar

Rowland leads several vibrant and colourful projects in the UK
The pulsating Mistura with tantalizing sounds from London and Brazil; Creative Force featuring the award winning vibest Orphy Robinson; In Kimbe with superb Sardinian vocalist Filomena Campus and the innovative group Myrtle with Alwynne Pritchard (vocals) and Thorolf Thuestad (computer)

As a soloist
Rowland enjoys performing solo flute music from various parts of the world including works by Jolivet, Takemitsu, Carter, Ferneyhough and Scelsi. As well as a host of British composers including Finnissy, Cutler, Toovey and Gander

As an educator
Rowland is professor at Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He also tutors at the Royal Northern College of Music and lectures at Birmingham Conservatoire
